В юношеские годы жил в Царском Селе. Систематического художественного образования не получил, пользовался советами одного из самых выдающихся педагогов петербургской Императорской Академии художеств П.П. Чистякова (1832-1919).
Дружил и работал с художником К.И. Рождественским. В 1939 г. был главным художником павильона СССР на Всемирной выставке в Нью-Йорке.
Работы художника находятся во многих региональных музеях, в частных коллекциях в России и за рубежом.
